HELLO BREUKELEN. Dutch-born, L.A.-based Palmbomen II teams up again with old pal Betonkust to follow up their debut as a duo on 1080p with this 6-trackEP on Dutch techno imprint Pinkman. Tape saturation is still the duos weapon of choice: the record traverses an array of styles all the while staying firmly in the red. From bleepy acid techno (N401) to blown-up & blissed-out electro (Boven De Wet); the darker side of Kraftwerk (“Donkerblauwe Autos”) to the darker side of Legowelt (Suite 100). Hotel Breukelen is not without its gentler moments, though: Zwaluw sounds like the X-Files theme retooled for thechillout room.
